Unsure if bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is right for you? You’re not alone. Millions of women and men experience the consequences of hormonal imbalance daily, and we know these symptoms can take a serious toll on mental and physical health. But with Physician Aesthetic Specialists, you don’t have to “grind through” the adverse effects of aging.
Backed by decades of medical expertise, the Physician Aesthetic Specialists team often recommends BHRT to adult patients struggling with the symptoms associated with aging and decreased hormone production.

Who Benefits From BHRT?
As we get older, it’s often difficult to decipher the cause of our fatigue, depressed mood, or aches and pains. We might attribute these changes in mental and physical well-being to recent life events, inactivity, or just old age.
However, the root of your symptoms could be a hormonal imbalance. Your hormones are chemical messengers within the body, which tell your systems how and when to take action. This means that your hormones affect how your body functions, and lowered levels might lead to any of the following changes in:
- Brain and Mood: fatigue, brain fog, sleep disturbances, or low mood
- Hair, Skin, and Nails: dry skin, thinning hair, acne, or dark spots
- Eyes and Neck: puffy face, thinning eyebrows, eye irritation, or a swollen neck
- Heart and Metabolism: fluctuating weight, heat/cold intolerance, heart palpitations, or shifts in blood pressure, glucose, or cholesterol
- Muscles, Bones, and Blood: weakness, decreasing muscle mass, poor tolerance of exercise, aches, low bone density, anemia
- Gastrointestinal: constipation, diarrhea, or abdominal pain
- Sexual/Reproductive Health in Women: hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, low libido, PCOS, fertility issues, or irregular, heavy, or skipped periods
- Sexual/Reproductive Health in Men: low libido, erectile dysfunction, increased abdominal fat, loss of body hair
Once we identify that a hormonal imbalance is having adverse effects on your health, your BHRT doctor in Lenexa helps you chart a path forward.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT, uses plant-derived hormones very similar to those produced by your body to boost your natural hormone levels and restore optimal bodily functions. BHRT differs from traditional HRT because HRT comes in fixed doses of synthetic or animal-derived ingredients to mimic your body’s hormones.
An Expert Team You Can Trust
As your BHRT doctor in Lenexa, Dr. Dan Margolin works to advance your health holistically. Dr. Margolin leads our practice with decades of surgical and medical experience. After a 20-year career as a board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Margolin now uses his passion for precision and healing to provide noninvasive aesthetic and wellness treatments.
He opened Physician Aesthetic Specialists in 2022, where he provides personalized care that improves patients’ quality of life without surgical intervention.
At Physician Aesthetic Specialists, our women-led team of nurses and estheticians is in your corner, too. We understand your struggles and embrace the beautiful (and messy) sides of aging. You are not alone in your experiences, and we’ve seen firsthand the amazing effects BHRT has had in our patients’ lives.
Together, we can do more than just treat your symptoms; we can use BHRT to foster long-term wellness that supports the lifestyle you want. We’re here for you every step of the way—and the first step towards wellness is a consultation with our team here in Lenexa.
Consultation
The initial consultation with Physician Aesthetic Specialists is your opportunity to share any mental or physical health struggles you have been experiencing, as well as your general medical history. Dr. Margolin likely will not recommend hormone therapy for patients with conditions like blood clotting disorders, heart disease, breast cancer, or a history of strokes.
Our providers listen to your concerns and assess your symptoms to craft a treatment plan that is right for you. Because menopausal women’s hormones fluctuate day by day, keeping track of these symptoms is especially important in shaping your treatment plan.
Lab Testing
During your appointment, Dr. Margolin carefully completes a blood draw and tests the sample to gauge your various hormone levels. Leading up to your consultation, a member of the Physician Aesthetic Specialists team lets you know when to start fasting for the most accurate blood panel results.
A hormone panel tells our team if you are experiencing imbalances of estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Any imbalances could make you a candidate for BHRT.
- Estrogen influences your sexual and reproductive health, including menopause.
- Testosterone affects body hair, muscle mass, bone density, body fat, libido, endurance, mood, energy levels, and concentration.
- Progesterone supports menstruation and pregnancy.
- Luteinizing Hormone affects testosterone production and menstruation.
- Follicle-Stimulating Hormone plays a role in the function of the ovaries and testicles.

Customized Pellets
Once our BHRT doctor in Lenexa determines which of your hormone levels are low, we calculate a precise dose of bioidentical pellets that slowly release the hormones into your bloodstream. These levels will help you achieve optimal numbers—not just average.
Then, Dr. Margolin numbs the insertion site on the upper buttocks using a topical or injectable anesthetic. He makes a small incision to insert the hormone pellet, which is just the size of a grain of rice. This tiny incision does not require suturing. After insertion, Dr. Margolin covers the area with a small bandage. The entire procedure typically takes just 30 to 45 minutes!
Your body gradually absorbs the implanted pellet, and you will feel its effects over the next 4 to 5 months as your hormone levels increase. This formula is unique to you, and we continue to monitor your hormone levels and symptoms to adjust your dosage at subsequent appointments if needed.
On average, Dr. Margolin recommends female patients return for their next pellet insertion every 4 months, and male patients return every 5 months. However, our team builds your custom dosing schedule based on your health condition to fit your needs.
Post-Care: Support Your BHRT Results
This procedure is simple, requiring no downtime on or after the day of the insertion. You can return to most of your usual activities, but Dr. Margolin suggests avoiding strenuous exercise for about 3 days after the procedure, as this might disturb your healing incision. As with any wound, avoid touching or agitating the insertion site.
Some patients feel the results of their balanced hormone levels within a week of their first pellet insertion. Others require a cycle of 2 pellets before they perceive noticeable improvement of their symptoms. This is something you can discuss with Dr. Margolin in your scheduled appointments so we can continue to tailor your treatments if needed.
Maintaining healthy habits like a nutrient-dense diet, regular exercise, and a consistent sleep schedule further strengthens the body and mind, naturally improving the results of your balanced hormones. Taking care of and listening to your body is the first step in maintaining the results of your BHRT treatments. Though we can’t stop the hands of time, we can work proactively to better your well-being!
A BHRT doctor in Lenexa might also recommend nutraceuticals to enhance the results of your hormone replacement treatments. Physician Aesthetic Specialists partners with Biote to provide professional-grade dietary supplements that support your ongoing hormone optimization and general health. Though not essential, many patients enjoy the added benefits.

Feel the Effects of BHRT
Ready to restore your zest for life and get back to doing the things you love? BHRT supports the whole person, helping millions of people look and feel like themselves again. Most patients on well-dosed, monitored HRT and BHRT report feeling clearer, stronger, and more energetic. And at Physician Aesthetic Specialists, that’s a cause we’re dedicated to.
But you don’t have to take our word for it. Check out this testimonial from a patient who partnered with our BHRT doctor in Lenexa:
“Hormone replacement therapy has been a lifesaver for me. I went from having no motivation, low mood, irritability, flat affect, trouble sleeping and low sex drive to finally recognizing myself in the mirror and having life back! I would have never realized the impact of having almost no testosterone as a woman. Dr. Margolin did [a] thorough blood draw to determine deficiencies impacting all my symptoms to ensure the pellet formula was personalized to my body along with the appropriate supplements. I now hav[e] energy, motivation, and [the] joy of life back! I would highly recommend Dr. Margolin for any of your needs!” – Lindsey Sleigh
