BROTOX: More Men Getting BOTOX

Men are getting more aesthetic procedures like BOTOX than ever before to help them look and feel their best, and some have named this trend “BROTOX.” As aesthetic treatments become more mainstream, more men opt for BOTOX injections and JUVEDERM fillers. BOTOX injections are the top aesthetic procedure for men, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Pandemic Influence on “Brotox”

According to Fortune Magazine, the pandemic influenced the “BROTOX” trend. Dr. David Shafer, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, talked about the influx of men getting BOTOX and JUVEDERM injections. Shafer told Fortune, “If we can find one good thing about the pandemic, it has been good for plastic surgery, in general. People are spending more time at home and looking at themselves all day on Zoom. Men and women are noticing more wrinkles and coming in requesting treatments. Also, work-from-home schedules have allowed more flexibility to come in for appointments.”

Men’s Journal reported that economic factors drove the uptick in male aesthetic treatments. Whitney Bowe, MD, assistant medical director for cosmetic and laser services at Advanced Dermatology P. C., told the outlet that his patients felt BOTOX gave them a competitive edge. Bowe said, “Men feel increasingly pressured to maintain a more attractive and youthful look in a highly competitive job market.”
